Ever wonder why the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum feels like the chatty ambassador for the Chicago Academy of Sciences. Spoiler: it is. The Academy got its start way back on January 13, 1857, and has spent the decades nerding out on local nature while passing along the good word to anyone who listens.

They even beat everyone else to the punch by opening Chicagos first public museum in 1869, proving you dont need Instagram to go viral in the 19th century.
